Right now the Copenhagen Climate Bottom Meeting has started. Many thinkers and global leaders have suppressed, that this is a unique and critical chance to achieve co-operation on international level. Some say it's our last chance to stop the process of global warming and climate change that is already rapidly unfolding.

Heikki Hattila from Let's do it! team has worked hard to build a sauna to promote the clean-up idea for the journalists and visitors in Copenhagen.

Toomas, Rainer and Nele are also there as well as many musicians from Estonia. Rainer has a chance to introduce the Let's do it! action by giving a speech. Hopefully we will have more detailed news from them soon.

Paul Hawken talks in Portland May 20

Henri Laupmaa · Comments: 0

The author of "Blessed Unrest" and founder of Wiser Earth speaks at University graduation in Portland:

"Basically, the earth needs a new operating system, you are the programmers, and we need it within a few decades.

This planet came with a set of operating instructions, but we seem to have misplaced them. Important rules like don’t poison the water, soil, or air, and don’t let the earth get overcrowded, and don’t touch the thermostat have been broken. Buckminster Fuller said that spaceship earth was so ingeniously designed that no one has a clue that we are on one, flying through the universe at a million miles per hour, with no need for seatbelts, lots of room in coach, and really good food – but all that is changing.

There is invisible writing on the back of the diploma you will receive, and in case you didn’t bring lemon juice to decode it, I can tell you what it says: YOU ARE BRILLIANT, AND THE EARTH IS HIRING. The earth couldn’t afford to send any recruiters or limos to your school. It sent you rain, sunsets, ripe cherries, night blooming jasmine, and that unbelievably cute person you are dating. Take the hint. And here’s the deal: Forget that this task of planet-saving is not possible in the time required. Don’t be put off by people who know what is not possible. Do what needs to be done, and check to see if it was impossible only after you are done.

When asked if I am pessimistic or optimistic about the future, my answer is always the same: If you look at the science about what is happening on earth and aren’t pessimistic, you don’t understand data. But if you meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the poor, and you aren’t optimistic, you haven’t got a pulse."

AFP: Massive clean-up drive in Latvia, Lithuania Apr 24

Henri Laupmaa · Comments: 0

RIGA (AFP) – Latvians and Lithuanians turned out in tens of thousands Saturday to clean up their Baltic nations as part of theinternational Earth Day environmental campaign, organisers said.

Preliminary estimates suggested that more than 100,000 volunteers participated in Latvia's "Great Clean Up" project.

Organisers in the country of 2.3 million were unable to immediately say how much trash was collected, but expected almost double last year's total of 260,000 bags of garbage collected by 50,000 people.

"The hope is that we'll make Latvia the cleanest country in the world in 10 years," event organizer Vita Jaunzeme told AFP, explaining the goal of making Latvia a trash-free zone by 2018 for the 100th anniversary of its independence.

Latvian President Valdis Zatlers and Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis also rolled up their sleeves Saturday to gather garbage.

In neighbouring Lithuania,"Let's Do It" clean-up organisers estimated Saturday that 50,000 of the country's 3.4 million citizens pitched in to collect up to 10,000 tons of garbage.
